About this Credential

A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of pharmacists, to prepare medications, provide medications and related assistance to patients, and manage pharmacy clinical and business operations. Includes instruction in medical and pharmaceutical terminology, principles of pharmacology and pharmaceutics, drug identification, pharmacy laboratory procedures, prescription interpretation, patient communication and education, safety procedures, record-keeping, measurement and testing techniques, pharmacy business operations, prescription preparation, logistics and dispensing operations, and applicable standards and regulations. As part of Governor Holcomb's Next Level Jobs initiative, the Workforce Ready Grant program provides free training for working-age Hoosiers in the state's highest demand jobs. These industries have higher median salaried jobs and are rapidly growing in Indiana - including Advanced Manufacturing, Building & Construction, Health & Life Sciences, Information Technology & Business Services, and Transportation & Logistics. Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana
Completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certificate leads to eligibility for certification examination through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association, both Indiana State Board of Pharmacy recognized certification exams, employment, and/or completion of an associate degree. Ivy Tech Community College has been approved by the Indiana State Board as a provider of pharmacy technician training.

  • ACT scores of 17 in English, and 18 in reading and math or higher on test taken within the last four years
  • PSAT scores of 26 in writing, 25 in reading and 24.5 in math* or higher on tests taken within the last four years. *Scores may vary in math depending on the year the PSAT was completed.
  • SAT scores of 25 or higher in reading, 27 or higher in writing and language, and 500 or higher in math on tests taken within the last four years. *Scores may vary depending on the year the SAT was completed.
  • College transcript if you have already earned college credits in English or math, or been awarded an associate degree or higher at another college or university. International students will still need to supply a NACES approved transcript.
  • High school GPA of 2.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale after six completed semesters (if still in high school) or at graduation with a Core 40, Technical Honors or Academic Honors or equivalent within the last four years
  • Accuplacer if you don't have any of the above documents, you can complete the Accuplacer on campus. This is a free skills assessment that determines which writing, reading, and math classes you'll take first.
